Rhyme and University Books & More are pleased to announce that Jarrett Lieder (Fr. • Oshkosh) of the swimming & diving team has been chosen as the UW-Oshkosh Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 12-18.
Lieder was involved in the creation of four UW-Oshkosh records during the three-day WIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship that ended Feb. 17 at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.
Lieder established a pair of UW-Oshkosh best with his second-place swim in the 1,650-yard freestyle. His overall time of 16:31.67 set a new record along with his time of 10:00.40 at the 1,000-yard mark of the race.
Lieder also formed a new school record with his preliminary time of 4:42.34 in the 500-yard freestyle. He went on to finish sixth in the event with a time of 4:42.55 while also placing ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a swim of 1:45.13.
Lieder shared his remaining record-setting performance with teammates Trevor Jacobs, Ian Sewell and Josiah Vandenberg. The group formed a new UW-Oshkosh standard in the 800-meter relay with their fifth-place time of 7:11.15.
UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team competition with 245 points.
UW-Stevens Point scored 905 points to win its 19th straight WIAC title and 22nd overall. The Pointers were followed in the five-team meet by second-place UW-Eau Claire with 711 points, third-place UW-La Crosse with 635.5 and fourth-place UW-Whitewater with 583.5.
Each week throughout the 2017-18 school year, one male and one female UW-Oshkosh student-athlete are recognized for their accomplishments from the previous week. The award winners will be announced on the UW-Oshkosh athletics website every Monday afternoon.
