Titans Unable To Overcome Blugolds' Fast Start

UW-Eau Claire recorded victories in each of the first seven bouts to defeat the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team, 25-9, on Wednesday (Nov. 13) in Eau Claire.

The Blugolds (1-0) used their string of wins to build a 25-0 lead before the Titans (0-2) closed the Chancellor's Cup match with triumphs by Bryce Herlache at 184 pounds, Colten Cashmore at 197 and Jordan Lemcke at 285.

Herlache was a 6-4 winner over Grant Balconi and Cashmore a 4-3 victor over James Huntley. Lemcke defeated Austen Hakes by a 10-6 result.

UW-Eau Claire's Jack Marley opened the match with his 19-9 victory over Denis Murphy at 125 pounds.

The Blugolds won three other bouts by a major decision as Tyler Demco defeated Kobe Allen, 13-0, at 141 pounds; Adam Rients ousted Nate Arquinego, 12-3, at 157; and Chase Schmidt conquered Muzi Sitshela, 13-2, at 165.

Other winners for UW-Eau Claire were Thomas Severson at 133 pounds, Jake Drexler at 149 and Evan Lawrence at 174.

Severson won a 12-9 result over AJ Schoenfuss and Drexler an 8-6 verdict over Keagan Lazar. Lawrence defeated Jordan Blanchard by a 5-2 score.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 21 in Kolf Sports Center.
