UW-Oshkosh opened its 2019 women's cross country season with a third-place finish at the nine-team UW-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open held Friday (Sept. 6) in Somers.
NCAA Division I Butler University (Ind.) captured the team title with 19 points while Division III members University of Chicago (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh finished second and third with 39 and 104 points, respectively.
NCAA Division II UW-Parkside placed fourth with 115 points and Division III member North Central College (Ill.) fifth with 125.
UW-Oshkosh was led by Ashton Keene and Hannah Lohrenz in its season debut. Keene finished the 5,000-meter race in a 15th-place time of 19:06 and Lohrenz in a 22nd-place time of 19:28. Lohrenz was a 51st-place finisher in last year's meet.
Other contributors to the Titan's team score were Elizabeth Reddeman, Amanda Van Den Plas and Alexandria Demco. Reddeman placed 25th with a time of 19:41 while Van Den Plas finished 28th in 19:49 and Demco 31st in 19:53.
UW-Oshkosh also had Mariah Linse finish 33rd in 19:57, Tayah Cunningham 58th in 20:50, Breanna Van Den Plas 60th in 20:54, Melissa Srnka 64th in 21:00, Libby Geisness 66th in 21:03, Tricia Cich 70th in 21:16 and Lauren Urban 74th in 21:24.
Butler University, which finished fourth at last year's Big East Championship, swept the top four individual listings in Friday's race.
Josephine Thestrup led the Bulldogs with her winning time of 17:44 while teammates Maddie McLain finished second in 17:52, Mia Beckham third in 18:18 and Camille Hines fourth in 18:28.
University of Chicago's Claire Brockway placed fifth among the meet's 119 runners with a time of 18:36.
UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts the Titan Fall Classic on Sept. 20 at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
