Box Score Paul Beach (Sr. • Prairie du Sac) scored goals with both his foot and head to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Hamline University (Minn.) on Saturday (Sept. 12) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
Beach gave UW-Oshkosh (3-0-1) a 1-0 advantage when he took a served ball from Andy Domer (Jr. • Brookfield) and kicked it into the goal just 8:08 into play. Beach then doubled the Titans' lead when he headed a passed ball from Greg Jones (Sr. • Milwaukee) and Andy Kohel (Jr. • Racine) into the net at the 58:01 mark of the match. The goals were the first and second of the season for Beach.
Will Howell (Sr. • Waunakee) sealed UW-Oshkosh's win over its first-time opponent by converting a direct kick from 30 yards out with 5:29 remaining. The goal was Howell's third of the season.
UW-Oshkosh launched 19 shots and eight corner kicks during its first home match of the 2009 season. The Titans were led by the three shots each of Beach, Jones and Robby Giljohann (So. • Pewaukee). UW-Oshkosh held Hamline University (2-3) to just three shots, with two of them belonging to Drew Lukas. The Pipers went the 90-minute match without attempting a corner kick.
UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (So. • Wauwatosa) saved three shots to earn his third career shutout. Zach Nelson stopped seven shots while protecting the Hamline University goal.
UW-Oshkosh will host Grinnell College (Iowa) on Sunday (Sept. 13) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
