Phil Devine (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) captured both diving
events and Dalton Anderson (So. • Elkhorn) the 100-yard
freestyle as the UW-Oshkosh swimming and diving team dropped its
season opener, 157-81, to UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Oct. 23) in
Albee Hall.
On the three-meter diving board, Devine posted a
score of 340.95 to top all competitors. He also took first place
with a tally of 324.30 in the one-meter challenge. Anderson posted
his 100-yard victory in 49.12, while taking second in the 200-yard
freestyle at 1:47.21.
The Titans' diving dominance continued with Tim
Kuckuk's (So. • Plymouth) second-place listings in both
events. Kuckuk notched a 241.10 at three meters and compiled a
226.70 at one meter to only trail his teammate. UW-Oshkosh's
remaining second-place score came from Brian Markovich (Jr. •
Colgate), who swam to a time of 56.90 in the 100-yard
butterfly.
Markovich tacked on a pair of third-place
showings in the 50-yard freestyle (23.47) and in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:08.78). At the end of the 1,650-yard freestyle,
David Stanisch (Fr. • Middleton) ranked third with a mark of
18:55.50. Alex Socha (Jr. • Pleasant Prairie) stood third in
the one-meter dive with 183.70 points, as did Matt Engelhardt (So.
• DeForest) with a 59.79 clocking in the 100-yard
backstroke.
Along with UW-Oshkosh's finish of third in the
200-yard freestyle relay, four individuals earned a fourth-place
listing. Those scores consisted of Engelhardt's figure of 4:50.41
in the 400-yard individual medley, Jon Streich's (Jr. •
Hubertus) 19:32.21 in the 1,650-yard freestyle, Eddie Dominguez's
(So. • Greendale) 23.80 in the 50-yard freestyle and C.J.
Wagner's (Sr. • Oshkosh) 52.30 in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Titans' next matchup is against Carroll
University at Albee Hall on Saturday (Oct. 30).
