Allison Booth (Fr. • Middleton) and Emily Shandley (So.
• Oak Creek) each won an event as the UW-Oshkosh women's
swimming and diving team opened its 2010-11 season with a 138-81
defeat to UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Oct. 23) in Albee Hall.
Shandley touched the wall in a time of 2:02.82 to
capture the 200-yard freestyle race, in addition to her
second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 56.81.
On the three-meter diving board, Booth posted a score of 155.25 for
first place. Booth tacked on a 170.98 to finish third in the
one-meter diving competition.
The Titans also received a trio of top-three
performaces from Marissa Graff (Fr. • Houghton, Mich.). She
earned the second position in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:44.52, as
well as third place in both the 400-yard individual medley
(5:14.86) and the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:33.40). Melissa Harvey
(Jr. • Kingsford, Mich.) added a second-place listing in the
100-yard backstroke with a 1:04.55 and a fourth-place standing in
the 400-yard individual medley at 5:18.15.
Cassie Dutko (So. • Oshkosh) continued
UW-Oshkosh's diving success by taking second in the three-meter
event with 150.75 points. Other Titans scoring second place were
Kathleen Cleppe (Fr. • Grafton) in the 100-yard breaststroke
at 1:18.41 and Katie Duffey (So. • McFarland) in the 100-yard
butterfly at 1:06.54.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Shandley, Hannah
Forcey (Fr. • Appleton), Samantha Sommers (Jr. • Suamico)
and Heather Statz (Sr. • Sun Prairie) booked a time of 1:47.00
for second place. The Titans' 200-yard medley relay squad placed
third, as did Kim Price (Sr. • Waukesha) in her 100-yard
butterfly swim after a 1:11.35.
Earning both a third-place and fourth-place
result was Liz Schneider (Jr. • Madison). Her top showing was
in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:49.57, while Schneider
also clocked a 19:44.98 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Forcey
finished in 27.30 to take fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, while
Vanessa Jagodinsky (Fr. • Green Bay) also came in fourth
during the 100-yard butterfly at 1:12.37. Rounding out the
fourth-place scores for UW-Oshkosh were Trisha Smithers (So. •
Racine) in the 500-yard freestyle (6:33.23) and Leanne Bowen (So.
• Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) in one-meter diving with a 138.95
tally.
The Titans will hit the pool again when Carroll
University visits Albee Hall on Saturday (Oct. 30).
