Melissa Harvey (Jr. • Kingsford, Mich.) and Samantha
Sommers (Jr. • Suamico) each posted a victory as the
UW-Oshkosh swimming and diving team lost a 197-41 decision to UW-La
Crosse on Saturday (Jan. 15) in Albee Hall.
The Eagles, ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III,
took first place in 11 events. Rachel Helgeson dominated the
freestyle competitions, winning the 200-yard swim (2:02.60) and the
500-yard contest (5:22.76).
Harvey bested four UW-La Crosse challengers to
capture the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.73. In the 100-yard
butterfly, Sommers was the only Titan in the top five as she won
with a mark of 1:01.48.
UW-Oshkosh's lone second-place performance
came from Emily Shandley (So. • Oak Creek) with her 25.70 in
the 50-yard freestyle. Three Titans posted a finish of fourth,
including Harvey with her 2:03.54 in the 200-yard freestyle. Leanne
Bowen (So. • Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) compiled 181.12 points on
the three-meter diving board and Hannah Forcey (Fr. •
Appleton) clocked a 5:50.43 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The Titans' next event is the
UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan.
21-22).
