Titans Pull Out Win Over Knights

Bobby Brooks (So. • Neenah) rallied for a victory in the final contest as the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team nipped Calvin College (Mich.), 5-4, on Tuesday (March 20) in Orlando, Fla.

Competing at No. 1 singles, Brooks lost his first set by a 7-5 score to Brian DeMaagd. Brooks bounced back with wins of 6-4 in the second set and 6-1 in the third to give UW-Oshkosh (6-7) its fourth straight victory.

Brooks earned another team point for the Titans when he teamed with Kevin Lewis (So. • Howard) to post an 8-4 win over DeMaagd and Phillip Reinken at No. 1 doubles.

Other singles winners for UW-Oshkosh were Lewis in the second flight and Adam Kasper (Jr. • Franklin) in the fifth. Lewis marked a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Reinken, while Kasper notched a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 triumph over Jarrod Brower.

UW-Oshkosh picked up its final team point at No. 2 doubles. In that flight, Kasper and Aidan Sauberlich (Fr. • Green Bay) registered an 8-3 victory over Reinken and Loukas Peterson.

Calvin College (1-2) won at No. 3 doubles as Brower and John Strikwerda defeated Josh Hopfensperger (So. • Neenah) and Scott Niemi (Sr. • Appleton), 8-0.

Singles for the Knights were Preston Phillips in the third flight, Peterson in the fourth and Vashan Wright in the sixth. Phillips edged Sauberlich, 7-5, 6-4, while Peterson topped Jason Alexander (So. • Fond du Lac), 6-2, 6-4. Wright ousted Hopfensperger, 6-2, 6-3.

UW-Oshkosh looks to continue its winning streak when it battles Hope College (Mich.) on Thursday (March 21) in Orlando.
