UW-Oshkosh came up short in all five of its three-set matches during season-ending losses to the UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse men's tennis teams on Saturday (April 21) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.
UW-Oshkosh (9-13) dropped contests of 9-0 to UW-Eau Claire (18-8) and 6-3 to UW-La Crosse (12-13).
Against UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh scored all of its team points on 8-6 victories in doubles play. Winning for the Titans were Bobby Brooks (So. • Neenah) and Kevin Lewis (So. • Howard) over Nick Piotrowski and Peter Stadum in the first flight, Adam Kasper (Jr. • Franklin) and Aidan Sauberlich (Fr. • Green Bay) over Vic Mirasola and Dante Pitera in the second and Josh Hopfensperger (So. • Neenah) and Scott Niemi (Sr. • Appleton) over Matt Bulger and CJ Schwind in the third.
UW-La Crosse took all six singles matches, including Mirasola's 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Sauberlich in the third flight and Schwind's 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 triumph over Jason Alexander (So. • Fond du Lac) in the sixth.
The Eagles also received individual wins from Piotrowski in the first flight, Stadum in the second, Nick Skanavis in the fourth and Bulger in the sixth. Piotrowski defeated Brooks, 6-2, 6-0, while Stadum ousted Lewis, 6-3, 7-5. Skanavis posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Niemi and Bulger a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kasper.
UW-Eau Claire won three three-set contests over UW-Oshkosh in the opener. The Blugolds obtained victories of 2-6, 7-6 (11-9) from Ryan Vande Linde over Lewis at No. 2 singles, 3-7, 7-6 (10-8) from Florent Marco over Sauberlich at No. 3 singles and 2-6, 7-5 (10-3) from Joey Minear over Niemi at No. 4 singles.
Other winners in singles play for UW-Eau Claire were Chris Kuna in the first flight, Joe Meier in the fifth and Michael Roden in the sixth. Kuna marked a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lewis, while Meier notched a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Alexander. Roden tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kasper.
In doubles action, the UW-Eau Claire tandem of Kuna and Minear posted an 8-0 victory over Brooks and Lewis in the first flight. The Blugolds also received an 8-2 win from Vande Linde and Dirk Van Rybroek over Kasper and Sauberlich in the second flight and an 8-5 triumph from Roden and David Stingley over Hopfensperger and Niemi in the third.
