UW-Oshkosh scored twice during a five-minute span late in the first half to take control and defeat the Augsburg College (Minn.) men's soccer team on a rainy Saturday (Oct. 5) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Titans won the match, 3-0, as Paul Messerly and Chris Whalen started the scoring with goals during the 35th (34:23) and 39th (38:46) minute of play, respectively. UW-Oshkosh (7-0-4) sealed the victory with a goal by Tony Starnes in the game's 79th minute (78:55).

Messerly opened the scoring with an 18-yard kick into the net. The goal was his first of the season and followed a pass from Elias Efthimiou.

Whalen doubled the Titans' lead when he scored on a header from 12 yards. His goal followed long passes from Tanner Freund and Kirby Allen.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, closed its scoring on Starnes' kick from four yards. Efthimiou was credited with his second assist of the match on the goal.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Augsburg College, 13-12. Both teams earned four corner kicks.

Starnes had three shots and Matt Cheaney two to lead UW-Oshkosh. Ben Henry, Lekpea Kordah, Tanner McCarthy and Ngochinyan Ollor paced the Auggies (7-3-1) with two shots each.

UW-Oshkosh's Nick Barry saved seven shots, including five in the first half, to record his second straight goalkeeping shutout. The Titans also had a defender record a save.

Augsburg College goalkeeper Clayton Lynch stopped four shots while allowing all three UW-Oshkosh goals.

UW-Oshkosh goes after its first WIAC win of the season at Finlandia University (Mich.) on Sunday (Oct. 6).
