Hope College (Mich.) won four of six singles contests to edge UW-Oshkosh, 5-4, in a men's tennis match held Tuesday (March 19) in Orlando, Fla.
UW-Oshkosh (6-7) built an early lead on 8-6 wins from Bobby Brooks (Jr. • Neenah) and Kevin Lewis (Jr. • Howard) at No. 1 doubles and Mike Gillespie (So. • De Pere) and Aidan Sauberlich (So. • Green Bay) at No. 2 doubles. Brooks and Lewis defeated Bobby Cawood and Gabe Casher, while Gillespie and Sauberlich ousted Kyle Kreps and Davis Vanderveen.
Hope College (4-2) picked up its lone doubles win from Parker Bussies and Jason Muller. The tandem posted an 8-3 victory over Charlie Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) and Adam Kasper (Sr. • Franklin) in the third flight.
UW-Oshkosh received individual wins from Sauberlich in the second flight and Alex Yang (Fr. • Milwaukee) in the fifth. Both players went to extended play as Sauberlich edged Bussies, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, while Yang trimmed Vanderveen, 3-6, 7-6 (10-4).
Singles winners for the Flying Dutch were Cawood in the first flight, Muller in the third, Kreps in the fourth and Jon Panzer in the sixth.
Cawood defeated Lewis, 6-1, 6-1, while Muller ousted Gillespie, 6-4, 6-2. Kreps posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kasper and Panzer a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Kinan Al-Bitar (Jr. • Oshkosh).
UW-Oshkosh plays Earlham College (Ind.) on Thursday (March 21) in Orlando.
