Kevin Lewis (Jr. • Howard), Bobby Brooks (Jr. • Neenah) and Mike Gillespie (So. • De Pere) were involved in two victories each as the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team edged Calvin College (Mich.), 5-4, on Friday (March 22) in Orlando, Fla.
Lewis posted a 7-6, 6-3 win over Brian DeMaagd at No. 1 singles while teaming with Brooks to tally an 8-5 triumph over Preston Phillips and Philip Reinken at No. 1 doubles.
Gillespie recorded a 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 win over Loukas Peterson at No. 4 singles while partnering with Aidan Sauberlich (So. • Green Bay) to register a 9-7 victory over DeMaagd and Peterson at No. 2 doubles.
Brooks also enjoyed an individual victory, marking a 6-4, 7-5 win over Phillips at No. 2 singles.
Calvin College (3-2) took the contest at No. 3 doubles as Jarrod Brewer and John Strikwerda defeated Charlie Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) and Adam Kasper (Sr. • Franklin), 8-1.
Other singles winners for the Knights were Renken in the second flight, Brewer in the fifth and Tom Groth in the sixth. Renken beat Sauberlich, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, while Brewer topped Alex Yang (Fr. • Milwaukee), 6-4, 6-3. Groth notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kinan Al-Bitar (Jr. • Oshkosh), 6-2, 6-1.
