Kevin Rasmussen won the decisive contest as Carroll University edged the UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team, 5-4, on Friday (March 8) in New Berlin.
Rasmussen gave the Pioneers the win when he outlasted Aidan Sauberlich (So. • Green Bay) by a 4-6, 6-3 (11-9) score at No. 2 singles.
Carroll University (5-4) won three other individual contests, including Jack Michael's 6-4, 1-6 (10-6) win over Kevin Lewis (Jr. • Howard) in the first flight. Frankie Giuffre defeated Alex Yang (Fr. • Milwaukee) by a 6-2, 7-5 score in the fifth flight, while Matt Joost ousted Kinan Al-Bitar (Jr. • Oshkosh) by a 6-2, 6-3 result in the sixth.
UW-Oshkosh (4-6) acquired individual wins from Mike Gillespie (So. • De Pere) in the third flight and Adam Kasper (Sr. • Franklin) in the fourth. Gillespie beat Ryne Fertitta, 6-3, 6-1, while Kasper trimmed Isaac Jordan, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8).
The Titans won two of the three doubles contests. Winning by 8-5 scores were Gillespie and Lewis over Fertitta and Michael in the first flight and Kasper and Sauberlich over Giuffre and Rasmussen in the second.
The Pioneers won at No. 3 doubles as Joost and Jordan defeated Charlie Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) and Ross Kohlhase (Jr. • Green Bay), 8-4.
UW-Oshkosh returns to the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center to host Ripon College on Saturday (March 9).
