Titans Reel In Muskies For Seventh Shutout Of Year

The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team recorded its seventh shutout of the season with Wednesday's (Oct. 15) 2-0 victory over Lakeland College at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (9-5-1) controlled Lakeland College (4-9-1) for most of the match, but didn't take a 1-0 lead until Michael Dugan scored off a pass from Malcom Jeffris during the 43rd minute (42:18) of play. Dugan's goal from eight yards was his third of the season.

The Titans clinched the win on a goal from Matt Cheaney in the 69th minute (68:22). Cheaney converted a 5-yard kick after receiving a pass from Trent Allison. The goal was Cheaney's second of the year.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 33 shots compared to just seven for Lakeland College. The Titans launched 19 shots in the first half and finished the contest with a 17-3 advantage in shots on goal. UW-Oshkosh earned six of the game's nine corner kicks.

A total of 14 UW-Oshkosh players attempted shots, including four each by Dugan, Jacob Hernandez, David Radtke and Javier Simon. The Titans also received three shots from Nick Gonzales.

Lakeland College's shot count featured three from Zachary Kline, who also had one of the three Muskie shots on goal.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska saved three shots for his third shutout of the season. He stopped two shots in the first half and one in the second to lower his WIAC-leading goals againat average to 0.77.

Lakeland College goalkeeper Thomas Mannebach was active throughout the match. He saved seven shots in the first half and eight in the second while allowing both UW-Oshkosh goals. The Muskies also had a first-half team save.

The victory improved UW-Oshkosh's record against Lakeland College to 8-2.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it meets St. Norbert College on Tuesday (Oct. 21) in De Pere.
