Titans Sink Vikings, Red Hawks

The UW-Oshkosh men's swimming & diving team won seven of 11 events to defeat Lawrence University and Ripon College in dual meets held Saturday (Feb. 6) in Ripon.

UW-Oshkosh, which also had three second-place efforts, outscored Lawrence University, 122-53, and Ripon College, 105-85.

Myles Taylor was a multiple winner for the Titans. He won 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.63 seconds and the 500-yard freestyle with an effort of 5:17.10.

Taylor also teamed with Jacob Casper, Zach Hogan and Tyler Shircel to record a second-place time of 1:44.45 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-Oshkosh owned five other event champions, including Casper who went 1:05.12 in the 100-yard breaststroke, Hogan who went 57.81 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and Shircel who went 2:05.90 in the 200-yard individual medley. Grady Hilgendorf won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:53.60.

The Titans captured first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Hilgendorf, Brandon Davison, Sam Green and Ian Sewell swam to a time of 1:37.33.

Davison also placed third in a pair of freestyle events. Davison recorded his finishes with times of 24.39 seconds at 50 yards and 53.93 seconds at 100.

UW-Oshkosh concluded a sweep of the top three finishes in the 500-yard freestyle with Hilgendorf's second-place effort of 5:18.70 and Alec Marquardt's third-place performance of 5:41.84.

The Titans also received a second-place time of 1:05.23 in the 100-yard breaststroke from Shircel and a third-place time of 1:55.74 in the 200-yard freestyle from Hogan.

While his UW-Oshkosh teammates were in Ripon, Tyler Henke was competing at the University of Illinois-Chicago Diving Invitational on Saturday in Chicago, Ill.

Henke finished 12th among 13 divers with scores of 200.85 points off the 1-meter board and 151.70 points off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Feb.18-20 in Brown Deer. The championship will be held at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.
