Matt Wilke captured first place in both diving categories as the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming and diving team began its 2017-18 season with a 170-56 setback to 25-time WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Albee Hall.
Wilke, competing in his first collegiate meet, scored 289.60 points off the 1-meter board and 259.90 points off the 3-meter plank.
The Titans owned a pair of second-place finishers as Mitchell Bricco and Nathan Newman swam to times of 1:55.66 in the 200-yard freestyle and 1:17.35 in the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively.
Ross Armitage recorded UW-Oshkosh's lone third-place finish with his time of 11:16.42 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Jarrett Lieder, competing in his first collegiate meet as well, contributed a pair of fourth-place finishes for UW-Oshkosh. He recorded times of 1:56.37 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:23.63 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Lieder also swam with Brandon Davison, Ian Sewell and Bryan Solomon to post a second-place time of 1:37.20 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
UW-Oshkosh received five other fourth-place results as Davison registered a time of 54.70 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, Solomon a mark of 57.78 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, David Bain an effort of 1:05.19 in the 100-yard backstroke, Trevor Jacobs a performance of 2:27.93 in the 200-yard individual medley and Alec Leppla a value of 24.02 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Titans will participate at the Wisconsin College Showcase next Saturday (Oct. 21) in Brown Deer.
