Titans Drop Outdoor Home Debut To Bobcats

Kyana Williams scored her third touchdown of the season on Sunday

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's flag football tied National Junior College Athletic Association member Bryant & Stratton College late in the fourth quarter but gave up another two scores to fall, 13-6, at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium Sunday (April 12).

The Titans (1-5) scored a touchdown for the fourth game in a row but couldn't keep up with the Bobcats' (4-2) offense that totaled 245 yards of offensive, two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a rainy game that had wind gusts up to 48 miles per hour.

Quarterback Marin Bell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) completed 14 of her 26 passing attempts for 129 yards and a touchdown but threw her seventh pick of the season and was sacked three times.

Kyana Williams (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) totaled 65 offensive yards – 13 on the ground and 52 through the air – and caught her third touchdown of the year to pace the Titans in both categories.

Aaliyah Lathrop (Port Washington/Port Washington) caught six passes for 60 yards and Jamaya Mariner (Green Bay/Green Bay East) caught three passes for 20.

Four bad snaps costed Oshkosh 17 rushing yards.

Bryant & Stratton's quarterback, Nyanoang Gatchang, threw for 196 yards on 16-of-35 attempts, connecting for two touchdowns while tossing two picks and dropping for a sack twice.

Jessica Tran and Gatchang both eclipsed 20 rushing yards with Tran scoring a touchdown.

Receivers Justice Guzman and Alexa Nuckles tallied touchdowns from Gatchang while accumulating 83 and 50 receiving yards, respectively.

Defensive stalwart Paige Vitek (Raymond/Union Grove) once again paced Oshkosh's defense with nine flag pulls, a pull-for-loss and two pass breakups.

Williams and Joely Schelfhout (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) both recorded an interception and Aliana Rauter (Milwaukee/Ronald Reagan) had both of the Titans' sacks of Gatchang.

The Titans started the game with the ball, however a quick three-and-out handed the Bobcats the ball.

After fighting through a scoreless first quarter, Bryant & Stratton struck first with a 9-yard touchdown on the first play of the second. The Titans held the Bobcats to a six-point lead for the remainder of the half following an unsuccessful point-after attempt and Schelfhout intercepted Gatchang's pass at the 29-yard line with 1:49 left on the clock but Oshkosh's offense stalled out at midfield as the horn sounded.

The Titans started their first possession of the third quarter on the Bobcats' 17-yard line, but an immediate Bell interception kept the Titans off the board. Williams picked off Gatchang as she was trying to flip the field, however two bad snaps and a false start penalty induced an Oshkosh punt.

Bell found Williams open for a touchdown with 5:04 left in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 6-6. Oshkosh's point-after attempt was no good and Bryant & Stratton scored in the following possession before pushing the lead to double-digits with a rushing touchdown.

The Titans make the return trip to Wauwatosa on Saturday (April 18), facing the Bobcats at Raabe Stadium at 7 p.m.
