OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh men's soccer head coach Darren Gallagher announced on Thursday (Sept. 10) that CJ Dwyer has been hired as an assistant coach.
"I am very pleased to have CJ join our staff as the men's soccer program returns Fall 2027," Gallagher said. "He cares deeply about UW-Oshkosh and the athletics program and will be someone who invests in the person we are developing just as much as the athlete. CJ has been here as a player, student, and staff member, so he is aware of the standard we aspire to reach!"
Dwyer previously served as a part-time assistant coach with the Titans women's soccer team, working alongside head coach Erin Coppernoll from 2021-24.
"I'm excited to help build this program alongside Coach Gallagher," said Dwyer. "We share similar philosophies and a similar outlook on the game. The WIAC has a rich history and is an incredibly competitive conference, so our goal is to establish a strong foundation and compete for championships from the start. UW-Oshkosh has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help build something that will last for decades. I also want to continue growing the love of the game throughout the Fox Valley and help make UW-Oshkosh a destination where men's and women's soccer players from across the country want to compete in black and gold."
During his time on the Titans' coaching staff, Dwyer helped guide UW-Oshkosh to one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2021. The Titans compiled a 16-2-2 overall record and posted a perfect 7-0 mark in WIAC play en route to claiming the WIAC regular season and tournament championships. UW-Oshkosh completed its first unbeaten conference schedule and captured both league titles in the same season for the first time in program history.
Dwyer began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer program during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He helped the Warriors reach their first ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament championship match in 2016 after posting a 9-8-5 record, including a victory over nationally ranked Concordia University Wisconsin.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Dwyer has held coaching positions with Menomonee Falls High School, Oshkosh United Soccer Club, and the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program. He also served as the Sports & Recreation Coordinator for the Appleton YMCA while working as a part-time assistant coach at UW-Oshkosh.
A 2016 UW-Oshkosh graduate, Dwyer earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology after playing for the Titans men's soccer team in 2014.
Dwyer earned a master's degree in leadership and innovation from Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2018 and completed a sports performance internship at Purdue University in 2016. He holds a United States Soccer Federation "C" coaching license.
