Wendy Carey

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Wendy Carey will be joining the defending National Collegiate Gymnastics Association champion UW-Oshkosh program as a full-time assistant under head coach Lauren Karnitz in 2022-23 after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Centenary College (La.).

Carey, a native of Amarillo, Texas, graduated from Texas Tech University and received a master's degree from Texas Woman's University. Carey was a gymnast for the club team at Texas Tech University from 2016-19, serving as the team president as well as the athletic strength and conditioning intern during her senior year.

"I am honored to announce to Titan Nation that Wendy Carey has been named assistant coach," said Karnitz, the UW-Oshkosh head coach since 2008. "Our program has been given its first ever full-time assistant coach position. This is a very exciting moment for women's sports at UW-Oshkosh and a step forward for Title IX. I expect Coach Carey to make an immediate impact on the team through her knowledge of gymnastics, her certifications as a judge and strength and conditioning coach, and her passion for the sport. I would like to welcome Coach Carey to our Titan Family and express our excitement for the future!"

Carey was an integral part of the Centenary College gymnastics program from 2021-22, lending her knowledge of judging along with her choreography talents and writing strength and conditioning programs. Last season Centenary College had two USA Gymnastics All-Americans and five qualifiers at the USAG Collegiate Nationals.

"I am so excited to be the new assistant women's gymnastics Coach at UW-Oshkosh," Carey said. "In just a short time from accepting the position, I have felt welcomed into the Titan Family not only by head coach Lauren Karnitz and the team but by UW-Oshkosh alumni as well. I am looking forward to working with Coach Karnitz and this great team. I am so excited, and I feel honored to take this next step in my collegiate coaching career. Go Titans!"
