22nd-Ranked Pioneers Fight Off 16th-Ranked Titans

A defensive battle between two nationally ranked men's soccer teams went in favor of Carroll University as the Pioneers edged the Titans, 2-1, on Saturday (Oct. 24) in Waukesha.

UW-Oshkosh (12-3-1) entered the contest ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, while Carroll University (14-1-2) was 22nd. It was the fifth meeting between the teams, with the Pioneers cutting the Titans' advantage in the all-time series to 3-2.

Carroll University tallied the first two goals of the contest, including Doug Johnson's scoring strike just 5:52 into play. Andy Prentice, who assisted on Johnson's goal with Stanislaw Miaskowski, gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead when he kicked in an assisted goal by Craig Carlson at the 28:22 mark of action.

UW-Oshkosh sliced its deficit in half when Devon Prideaux (Jr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored an unassisted goal at the 70:39 mark of the match. It was the third goal of the season for Prideaux.

UW-Oshkosh totaled nine shots and three corner kicks. Paul Beach (Sr. • Prairie du Sac) and Andy Domer (Jr. • Brookfield) led the Titans with two shots each.

Carroll University, which has won its last nine matches, compiled seven shots and three corner kicks. The Pioneers were led by the two shots each of Johnson, Prentice and Ryan Szecsy.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (So. • Wauwatosa) saved three shots, while Miaskowski, the Carroll University goalkeeper, stopped five.

UW-Oshkosh returns home to host Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday (Oct. 28).
