Titans, Pioneers Play To Stalemate

A men's soccer battle between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville ended in a 2-2, double-overtime tie on Sunday (Nov. 1) in Platteville.

The tie was the Titans' second of the season and their first against UW-Platteville in 25 meetings. UW-Oshkosh leads the all-time series against UW-Platteville by a 21-3-1 tally.

UW-Platteville began the scoring with B.J. Gottschlich's goal at the 13:47 mark of the match.

The score remained 1-0 until the Titans' Will Howell scored his 10th goal of the season at the 65:51 mark.

UW-Platteville answered minutes later at the 69:37 mark with Kyle Hoerter's rebound of teammate Mitch Corneilus' miss to give UW-Platteville a 2-1 advantage.

The Titans scored the match's final goal at the 73:28 mark with Robby Giljohann's second goal of the year, assisted by Will Howell to tie the match at two apiece.

Both teams played strong defense in both extra periods to end the match in a 2-2 tie.

UW-Oshkosh (13-3-2/2-0-1 WIAC) was led offensively by Will Howell with four shots, Andy Kohel with three, and Tim Stadler, Will Chaney, Musa Sowe and Greg Jones all with two shots each.

Goalkeeper James Pike, who played all 110 minutes, saved six shots and allowed two goals to 14 shots faced.

UW-Oshkosh continues action on Saturday (Nov. 7) as it takes on UW-Whitewater at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
