Box Score The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team, ranked 21st in the nation, opened a 3-0 lead early and held off a late rally from 15th-ranked Augsburg College to win 3-2 on Friday (Sept. 25) in Minneapolis, Minn.
The game was the second meeting between the two teams, with Oshkosh now holding a 1-0-1 record in the series.
The Titans opened scoring on the night at the 8:20 mark, where Brandon Briones would punch in a header off of Paul Beach's corner kick to make the score 1-0.
Later, Briones would score his second goal of the night at the 17:08 mark, when he gathered in a pass from Fedja Korjenic and shot a line drive into the goal from 35 yards out.
UW-Oshkosh's final goal of the night came at the 37:01 mark, where Will Howell scored his sixth goal of the year, this one unassisted, from the top center of the box to make the halftime score 3-0 in favor of the Titans.
Augsburg (5-3-1) found their legs in the second half, as goals from DJ Wendell and Alex Hildebrandt at the 58:32 and 72:42 marks respectively, would cut the Oshkosh lead to 3-2, but the Titans' defense would hold strong and keep the Auggies scoreless until the final gun.
The Titans (7-0-1) were led offensively by Musa Sowe with three shots and Will Howell and Brandon Briones with two shots apiece. Goalkeeper James Pike finished with seven saves to 19 shots faced.
UW-Oshkosh continues action on Sunday, Sept. 27th as they take on St. Olaf College from Northfield, Minn.
