Box Score UW-Oshkosh extended one streak, but had another come to an end when it played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team on Thursday (Oct. 14) in Mequon.
UW-Oshkosh, which entered the contest ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, increased its unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive matches with the tie. The stalemate, however, snapped the Titans' (13-0-2) 11-game winning streak.
Concordia University Wisconsin (8-3-3) also continued an unbeaten streak with the tie. The Falcons, who battled to a scoreless double-overtime decision with fourth-ranked Dominican University (Ill.) on Oct. 9, have gone 5-0-3 in their last eight contests.
Concordia University Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead over UW-Oshkosh on a goal by Enrique Alvarado in the eighth minute (7:22) of play. Alvarado's goal, just the third allowed by UW-Oshkosh this season, was assisted by James Kroll and Kyle Sytsma.
The contest remained in the Falcons' favor until the Titans' Brandon Briones (Sr. • Menasha) tied the score in the 44th minute (43:41) of action. Briones tallied his first goal of the season and the 24th of his career off a pass from Ryan Hanna (Fr. • Verona).
The teams combined for 17 shots the rest of the way, with UW-Oshkosh totaling five in the second half and four in the second overtime period. Concordia University Wisconsin launched five shots in the second half, but only two in the two extra sessions.
UW-Oshkosh finished the contest with 16 shots, including four by Mike Franzen (Sr. • Sussex), three by Briones and two by Hanna. Concordia University Wisconsin attempted 10 shots, with Sytsma and Enzo Berrini totaling three each. The Titans owned all four of the game's corner kick opportunities.
UW-Oshkosh's goal was protected by James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) and Tim Gindville (Sr. • New Lenox, Ill.). Pike allowed one goal and saved six shots in 87:55 of action, while Gindville went without a save during 22:05 of service.
Concordia University Wisconsin goalkeeper Samuel Ische played all 110 minutes and saved five shots. The Falcons also had a defender record a save.
UW-Oshkosh ends a string of six consecutive road matches when it hosts Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday (Oct. 16) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
