Box Score Erik White (Fr. • East Troy) scored two goals and seven of his teammates one each as UW-Oshkosh thumped Finlandia University (Mich.), 9-0, in a men's soccer match held Saturday (Oct. 16) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
White gave UW-Oshkosh leads of 7-0 and 9-0 by sending shots into the net at the 73:05 and 80:45 marks of the contest, respectively. Credited with assists on the goals were Tanner Freund (Fr. • Eagle River) and Kyle Wallin (Sr. • Oshkosh).
UW-Oshkosh (14-0-2/3-0 WIAC) jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.), Brian Miller (Sr. • Chippewa Falls) and Robby Giljohann (Jr. • Pewaukee) in the first eight minutes of play.
Prideaux gave the Titans a quick 1-0 advantage when he scored off a pass from Ryan Hanna (Fr. • Verona) just 52 seconds into the contest. Miller then scored off an assist from Wallin in the fifth (4:19) and Giljohann off a serve from Prideaux in the eighth minute (7:38) of action.
UW-Oshkosh took a 4-0 lead to intermission on a penalty kick by Freund in the 31st minute (30:02).
The Titans opened the second half with unassisted goals by Billy Cameron (Fr. • New Berlin) and Nick Laubenstein (Fr. • Howard). Cameron scored in the 57th minute (56:15) of play and Laubenstein in the 63rd (62:52).
UW-Oshkosh, which entered the contest ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, went ahead 8-0 on Garrett O'Brien's (Jr. • Shoreview, Minn.) assisted goal by Cameron in the 75th minute (74:28).
UW-Oshkosh racked up 22 shots in the match, including six by Cameron, four by White and two each by Freund, Laubenstein and O'Brien. The Titans had three corner kick opportunities.
Finlandia University (0-11/0-4 WIAC), which suffered its 20th straight loss, was limited to four shots and three corner kicks. The Lions were led by the two shots of Gabriel Ramos.
Combining for UW-Oshkosh's 13th shutout of the season were goalkeepers Tim Gindville (Sr. • New Lenox, Ill.) and Joey Wedderspoon (Fr. • Verona). Gindville saved one shot in 55:15 of service and Wedderspoon two shots in 34:45.
UW-Superior goalkeeper Mike Lalone saved eight shots while allowing all nine goals.
Ripon College will be the guest of UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday (Oct. 19) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
