Box Score Devon Prideaux (Sr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Tim Stadler (Jr. • Wauwatosa) scored first-half goals as UW-Oshkosh advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 victory over Loras College (Iowa) on Friday (Nov. 19) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
UW-Oshkosh (19-0-3) will battle Calvin College (Mich.) at 6 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 20) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium for the right to play in the semifinal round of the 60-team tournament on Dec. 3 in San Antonio, Texas.
Calvin College (16-2-5) qualified for its match with UW-Oshkosh by defeating UW-Whitewater (14-2-4) in a penalty kick shootout on Friday at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie before the Knights edged the Warhawks, 9-8, on penalty kicks.
UW-Oshkosh wasted little time in jumping ahead of Loras College (16-7-1) as it scored in the ninth minute (8:40) of play. Prideaux gave the Titans the lead when he kicked a 10-yard shot off passes from Robby Giljohann (Jr. • Pewaukee) and Brian Miller (Sr. • Chippewa Falls) into the goal. It was the sixth goal of the season for Prideaux, including his second match winner.
UW-Oshkosh doubled its advantage over the Duhawks with a goal off a corner kick in the contest's 24th minute (23:27). Andy Kohel (Sr. • Racine) served the corner kick and Stadler completed the opportunity by heading a five-yard shot into the back of the net. The goal was Stadler's team-leading 11th of the season.
UW-Oshkosh, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American, attempted 13 shots and five corner kicks. The Titans were led by the three shots of Miller and the two of both Prideaux and Tony Starnes (So. • Green Bay).
Loras College, which suffered its first loss in 11 matches (10-1-1 record), launched 11 shots and six corner kicks. Kevin Cavers, Chris Comstock, Andy Filipiak and Justin McCord each tallied two shots for the Duhawks.
Both goalkeepers, James Pike (Jr. • Wauwatosa) for UW-Oshkosh and Dan Wickman for Loras College, saved five shots. Pike's performance led to the Titans' 17th shutout of the season.
UW-Oshkosh is appearing in its 12th (1991, 1993-96, 1999-2003, 2007, 2010) NCAA Division III postseason tournament. A win over 17th-ranked Calvin College on Saturday would send the Titans to their fourth Final Four.
