Titans Unable To Quiet Thunder

UW-Oshkosh allowed just seven shots, but one of them was enough to make the difference as it dropped a 1-0 result to the Wheaton College (Ill.) men's soccer team on Saturday (Oct. 1) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Drew Golz, who led the Thunder (5-5-1) with three shots, scored the game's decisive goal on an eight-yard kick in the 53rd minute (52:34) of play. His fifth goal of the season came off a pass from Adam Blackman.

UW-Oshkosh (5-3-2), which was held scoreless for the third straight match, totaled 13 shots and posted a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans took 10 of their shots in the first half, including three on goal.

Tony Starnes (Jr. • Green Bay) and Tim Stadler (Sr. • Wauwatosa) led UW-Oshkosh with four and two shots, respectively. The Titans had seven other players launch one shot each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike (Sr. • Wauwatosa) yielded the lone score while saving three shots. The Titans, who entered the match ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, also had a defender register a save.

Wheaton College goalkeeper Ryan Seager saved three shots en route to his third shutout of the season.

UW-Oshkosh resumes WIAC action with a match against UW-Platteville on Saturday (Oct. 8) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
