Box Score A contest of top 20 nationally ranked men's soccer teams ended in a 1-1 tie as UW-Oshkosh and North Park University (Ill.) battled through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods on Saturday (Sept. 10) in Chicago, Ill.
UW-Oshkosh (1-1-1) entered the match ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and North Park University 20th. The Vikings (3-0-1) were looking to avenge last year's 2-0 loss to UW-Oshkosh in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
UW-Oshkosh jumped in front early as Ryan Hanna (So. • Verona) scored off a pass from Tim Stadler (Sr. • Wauwatosa) just 3:35 into play.
The Titans held their advantage until Kris Grahn scored off a serve from Sehten Hills with 3:22 left in regulation.
Overtime went scoreless despite four shots and two corner kicks from North Park University. UW-Oshkosh was held to just two shots in the extra sessions.
UW-Oshkosh finished the contest with 16 shots, including nine in the second half. The Titans were led by the three shots of both Stadler and Robby Giljohann (Sr. • Brookfield). UW-Oshkosh was granted four corner kicks.
North Park University launched 11 shots, with five of them coming in the second half. The Vikings were paced by the four shots of Grahn and the three of Robin Hals. North Park University earned six corner kicks.
Goalkeepers James Pike (Sr. • Wauwatosa) of UW-Oshkosh and Tim Ahlberg of North Park University both went the distance and saved three shots.
UW-Oshkosh's home schedule begins Wednesday (Sept. 14) when the Titans host Marian University at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
