Box Score UW-Whitewater had eight players score seven-plus points during a
68-50 men's basketball victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Jan.
16) in Whitewater.
The Warhawks (13-3/6-2 WIAC), ranked 15th by D3hoops.com, were
led by 11 points and five assists from Quardell Young. Eric Bryson
added 10 points, while Darnell Harris totaled 10 points and a
game-high nine rebounds.
Sean
Wise (Sr. • Wautoma) tallied a career-high 14 points, all
in the first half, to lead the Titans (6-11/1-7 WIAC). Dylan Wurtz
(Jr. • Kimberly) posted nine points and six rebounds, to go
with six points and six boards from Andre
Wallace (Fr. • Sun Prairie).
Young and Luke Knoble sparked UW-Whitewater to an early 10-3
lead. Knoble sank two baskets inside, while Young dropped in a
three-pointer and a lay-up.
Wise marked four points and Wurtz drained a deep jumper to pull
the Titans within 18-14 at the 11:57 mark. KJ Evans then counted
two hoops and Young hit a three-ball to make it a 35-25 advantage
at halftime.
UW-Oshkosh hung around with three-point shots by Wurtz and Josh
Hopfensperger (So. • Neenah). Following two free throws
from Cory
Nickel (Jr. • Waupun), the margin was 46-41 with 10:47
remaining.
The Warhawks responded with a 13-2 run that put the game out of
reach. Harris canned a pair of three-pointers and Bryson added
another deep jumper to make it 59-43.
After shooting 58 percent in the opening half, UW-Whitewater
finished at 50 percent overall (26-52). The Warhawks connected on
8-of-22 from long range (36 percent) and 8-of-12 at the foul line
(67 percent).
UW-Whitewater held a 35-25 advantage in rebounds.
The Titans recorded 40 percent (17-43) overall shooting, with 25
percent success (4-16) behind the arc and 71 percent accuracy on
free throws (12-17).
UW-Oshkosh hosts UW-Platteville next Wednesday (Jan. 23) in Kolf
Sports Center.
