Titans Conclude Regular Season Unbeaten

Box Score

Kirby Allen scored two goals and assisted on two others as UW-Oshkosh concluded its fourth unbeaten regular season with a 4-0 victory over the UW-Whitewater men's soccer team on Saturday (Nov. 2) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, won its ninth straight match to finish the regular season with a 14-0-4 record. The Titans also went unbeaten during the 1994 (16-0-1), 2003 (18-0) and 2010 (16-0-3) regular seasons.

Saturday's victory over the Warhawks was significant in another way as it gave UW-Oshkosh the top seed for next week's inaugural WIAC Championship. The Titans, who went 3-0-1 in their four WIAC contests, will host fourth-seeded UW-Platteville (7-8-3/1-3 WIAC) in a semifinal round match on Wednesday (Nov. 6) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh opened its scoring against UW-Whitewater (14-5-1/3-1 WIAC) on a goal by Jacob Hernandez during the 27th minute (26:46) of play. Two players assisted on the goal as Chris Whalen followed Allen's free kick from midfield with a perfectly executed pass to Hernandez. It was the third goal of the season for Hernandez, including his second match winner.

The Titans held their one-goal lead until Allen scored on a 17-yard kick in the contest's 52nd minute (51:55). His shot followed passes from Hernandez and Jan Nachtigall.

UW-Oshkosh sealed the victory with a pair of goals in the game's final five minutes. Nachtigall made the score 3-0 with a six-yard kick off a pass from Allen in the 86th minute (85:47), while Allen created the final result with a 14-yard boot off a serve from Nachtigall in the 89th (88:08). It was the seventh goal of the season for both players.

UW-Oshkosh posted advantages of 15-11 in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks. Allen and Nachtigall both attempted four shots for the Titans, while John Gottwald, Ryan Reid and Bob Shone each launched two for the Warhawks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska saved two shots for his sixth shutout of the season. The Titans also had a pair of team saves.

UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Josh Rohde stopped four shots and allowed all four UW-Oshkosh goals.

It was the 31st meeting between the teams, with UW-Oshkosh now owning a 16-11-4 advantage in the series.
