Titans Put Duhawks Away In Second Half

UW-Oshkosh scored 14 consecutive second-half points to pull away and defeat the Loras College (Iowa) women's basketball team, 76-64, on Saturday (Nov. 22) in Dubuque, Iowa.

Trailing 50-49, UW-Oshkosh (4-0) forced six turnovers and held Loras College (2-2) without a score for nearly six minutes as it took a 63-50 lead with 6:24 to play.

The Titans' decisive scoring spurt featured two baskets by Eliza Campbell, a conventional three-point play by Taylor Dagon, a 3-pointer by Ashley Neustifter, a layup by Taylor Schmidt and a jumper by Morgan Kokta.

Loras College closed to within 65-57, but five straight UW-Oshkosh points gave the Titans a 70-57 advantage with 4:57 remaining. The Titans' largest lead of the contest was a 76-59 score with 1:04 left.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, opened the game with a 10-4 lead after a three-point basket by Ashley Neustifter.

A Marissa Selner free throw extended the Titans' lead to 18-8 with 11:15 remaining in the first period, but Loras College responded with 12 consecutive points to take a 20-18 advantage with 8:01 left.

The Duhawks made all five of their shots from the field and both free throws during the run, while the Titans missed seven straight shots from the field and committed one turnover.

UW-Oshkosh regained leads of 25-24 and 33-32 on a 3-pointers by Emma Melotik, but a layup by Loras College's Lori Obendorf with five seconds left in the first half gave the Duhawks a 36-35 advantage at the break.

Following ties at 40 and 42 in the second half, Loras College tied its largest lead of the game by constructing a 46-42 advantage with 14:04 left. The Titans then tied the score at 46 on a layup by Dagon and a pair of free throws from Campbell.

UW-Oshkosh had four double-digit scorers, including Campbell who tallied a career-high 15 points. The Titans also received 14 points from Schmidt and 12 apiece from Neustifter and Katelyn Kuehl. Alex Richard recorded a team-high six rebounds and Neustifter a game-best five assists.

UW-Oshkosh ended the contest shooting 43.5 percent (27-62) from the field, including 45.5 (10-22) from beyond the three-point arc, and 85.7 (12-14) from the free-throw line. The Titans forced 21 turnovers while committing 12.

Loras College was led by Victoria May, who scored a game-high 27 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field. Obendorf added 12 points and game-highs of 13 rebounds and six blocks.

The Duhawks shot 53.8 percent (28-52) from the field, but just 9.1 (1-11) on 3-point attempts. Loras College shot 87.5 percent (7-8) from the free-throw stripe. The Duhawks held slim advantages in rebounds (33-29) and assists (16-15).

UW-Oshkosh plays Edgewood College on Tuesday (Nov. 25) in Madison.
