Titans' Victory Includes Boost Off The Bench

UW-Oshkosh nearly outscored the Bethany Lutheran College men's basketball team with just its bench points during a 66-37 victory over the host Vikings on Saturday (Dec. 6) in Mankato, Minn.

The Titans (4-2) received 35 points from its non-starters, including a career-high 11 from Brett Linzmeier. UW-Oshkosh also obtained eight points off the bench from both Sean Dwyer and Taylor Jansen and seven from Max Schebel.

UW-Oshkosh's 37 points from its starters featured 10 from Andre Wallace, seven by Kyle Bolger and six from Alex Olson.

Dalton Kleinschmidt led Bethany Lutheran College (0-6) in scoring with 10 points. The Vikings also received six points apiece from Nate Chadderdon and Luke Roddy.

UW-Oshkosh trailed 5-4 before scoring 14 straight points, including three-point baskets from Bolger, Linzmeier and Jake Laihinen, to take an 18-5 lead with 10:21 left in the first half.

The Titans scored the last seven points of the opening period, including four by Bolger, to take a 35-15 lead at intermission. Bethany Lutheran College's halftime deficit was primarily caused by its 17 turnovers and 28.6 percent (6-21) shooting from the field.

UW-Oshkosh extended its second-half advantage to 43-19 before Bethany Lutheran College chipped away and pulled to a 51-34 deficit with 11 minutes left.

It was all UW-Oshkosh after that as the Titans scored 15 of the game's final 18 points. UW-Oshkosh's largest lead was a 66-36 score with 3:58 remaining.

UW-Oshkosh, which committed a season-low nine turnovers, shot 38.2 percent (21-55) from the field. The Titans also shot 73.1 percent (19-26) from the free-throw line and 21.7 percent (5-23) from three-point range.

Bethany Lutheran College shot 32.6 percent (15-46) from the field, but just 9.1 percent (1-11) from the free-throw stripe. The Vikings made six of their 18 three-point shots (33.3 percent) while committing 26 turnovers.

The Titans had 13 players combine for their 36 rebounds. The overall count included four apiece from Olson, Wallace, Andrew Duening and AJ Mueller.

Bethany Lutheran College totaled 37 rebounds, with eight belonging to both Chadderdon and Brady Rose.

UW-Oshkosh resumes WIAC action with a trip to UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Dec. 10).
