Titans Win Five Bouts In Loss To Pointers

Both teams had five wrestlers win matches, but UW-Stevens Point earned 10 more points than UW-Oshkosh from its victors to defeat the Titans, 25-15, on Monday (Nov. 20) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Stevens Point (1-1, 1-1 WIAC) jumped to an 11-0 lead over UW-Oshkosh as Matt Berlin won on a forfeit at 125 pounds and Ben Vosters outscored the Titans' Anthony Senthavisouk, 11-6, at 133.

UW-Oshkosh (0-3, 0-3 WIAC) bounced back with consecutive wins from Wesam Alabed at 141 pounds, Corey Knudsen at 149 and Mark Choinski at 157 to cut its deficit to 11-9.

Alabed defeated the Pointers' Logan Newton, 11-6, while Knudsen ousted Nick Pretto, 13-8. Choinski finished UW-Oshkosh's run of victories with his 12-5 decision over David Granatelli.

UW-Stevens Point answered the Titans' threat with Jaden Boivin's pin of Oscar Ramos in 4:26 at 165 pounds. The Pointers then extended their lead to 22-9 with Dan Squires' 20-9 victory over Husam Alabed.

The teams swapped three-point scores in the next two bouts as UW-Oshkosh's Colten Cashmore defeated Cody Nielsen, 9-5, at 184 pounds and UW-Stevens Point's Dylan Diebitz ousted Jordan Lemcke, 8-3, at 197.

The Pointers held a 25-12 lead before Michael Dunlap gave the Titans their final points with his 5-3 victory over Ross Agg at 285 pounds.

Monday's match was contested in front of 319 fans.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it sends wrestlers to both the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational in Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Open in Kenosha on Dec. 2.
