Falcons Score Once In Each Half To Defeat Titans

Addie Schmitz had six of the Titans' 20 shots against the Falcons, including three on goal.

Kaeley Sterkel saved all 10 shots she faced as Concordia University Wisconsin defeated the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team, 2-0, on Sunday (Sept. 23) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Sterkel earned her career-best save total by blocking three UW-Oshkosh shots in the first half and seven in the second. She recorded two saves when the match was scoreless and four stops with the Falcons clinging to a one-goal advantage.

Concordia University Wisconsin (4-5) was held to just nine shots by the Titans (3-5-1), but one of them found the back of the net in each half.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead when Alexandra Tomich kicked a 35-yard shot into the goal during the 25th minute (24:31) of play. Tomich's third score of the season came after a pass from Shannon Carroll.

Concordia University Wisconsin doubled its advantage on a goal by Ashley Johnson in the 60th minute (59:42). Johnson tallied her third goal of the year by following Julia Smessaert's corner kick with a 15-yard scoring boot.

Nicole Ciesielczyk possessed three of the Falcons' nine shots while Tomich owned two.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 20 shots, six in the first half and 14 in the second. A total of 11 Titans released shots, including Addie Schmitz who launched six and Delaney Karl who fired three.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Madelyn Runyan saved four of the six shots she faced, including three in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Sept. 29) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The contest marks the WIAC opener for both teams.
