Jorgensen Ties School Record; Titans Cruise Past Vikings

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—All cylinders were firing for the No. 22/18 UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball squad as they defeated the Augustana College Vikings 64-49. 

Jenna Jorgensen recorded a career night for the Titans, going 8-of-14 from the field for 25 points. Jorgensen tied several Titans in making seven 3-pointers in the game, as Nikki Arneson recorded seven 3-pointers against Alma in 2021.

Kayce Vaile quietly recorded her third double-double this season, scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Vaile was named the MVP of the tournament, with Jorgensen being named to the All-Tournament team.

Game Recap

Sarah Hardwick opened scoring for the Titans on an assist from Vaile before grabbing back-to-back rebounds. Vaile and Jorgensen caught passes from Kennedy Osterman the Titans took an 8-0 lead early. Vaile, who recorded nine first quarter points, hit a pair of layups for the Titans early. The Vikings of Augustana broke through the Titan defense with just under six minute to play in the first quarter with a layup. A jumper by Ava Douglas gave the Titans a 13-point lead with 2:26 remaining, their largest of the quarter.

Hardwick extended the Titans lead to 14 early in the second quarter as the Vikings struggled to find an answer to the Titans offense. The Titans shot 48.3% from the field in the first half, opening with 50% from the field in the first quarter. A trip to the charity stripe by Douglas gave the Titans a 19-point advantage with just over two-minutes remaining in the half.

Jorgensen opened the Titan offense in the third quarter with a 3-pointer on a pass from Hardwick. The Titans held the Vikings to just four third quarter points, outscoring the Vikings by seven in the quarter.

The Vikings started to push back against the Titans defense in the fourth quarter, starting the quarter on a 10-2 run. Hardwick found the bottom of the net on an assist from Douglas, ending a two-minute scoring drought by the Titans. The Vikings continued to find the basket, trimming the Titans lead to 11 at 55-44 with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Jorgensen splashed in her seventh 3-pointer of the game with 1:48 remaining for the final field goal of the game for the Titans. The Titans final six points came from the charity stripe as the Titans cruised to their sixth win of the season. 

Titan Leaders

Joining Vaile and Jorgensen in double-digit scoring, Douglas added 12 points on 3-of-6 field goals and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Osterman led the Titans in assists with five and grabbed five of the Titans nine steals in the game.

The Titans recorded 34 rebounds and went 38.5% from the field and 72.7% from the free throw line. The Titans kept themselves out of foul trouble, allowing only one trip to the free throw line for the Vikings.

Next Time on the Court

The Titans break for the Thanksgiving holiday until they open conference play at home on Nov. 30. The Titans are set to host the Pioneers of UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. in Kolf Sports Center.
