Titans Race Past Bears 78-42

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Five Titans landed in double figure scoring as the (RV) UW-Oshkosh Titans hit cruise control early for a 78-42 victory over the Washington University (St. Louis) Bears.

Kennedy Osterman led the Titans with 12 points, going perfect from 3-point range (3-for-3) and at the charity stripe (3-for-3). Osterman added five rebounds and two assists in the game. Kayce Vaile and Mallory Lindsey added 11 points for the Titans as Kate Huml and Ava Douglas added 10 apiece.

The Titans went 28-of-58 from the field (48.3%) while making 14 of 31 3-point attempts. The Titans shot 80% from the free throw line (8-of-10) and tallied 30 rebounds, 14 assists, and five steals in the contest. Grabbing 11 second-chance points, the Titans bench contributed 46 points.

The Titans tied the school record for made 3-pointers in a contest at 14. The Titans had previously achieved this feat in 2013 (against Northland International) and in 2015 (against Edgewood). The Titans joined a tie for No. 4 All-Time in 3-point attempts.

Game Summary

Jenna Jorgensen opened action for the Titans, hitting a 3-pointer on an assist from Vaile. The Bears of WashU hit back-to-back baskets to take an early 4-3 lead before Vaile tied the game at four. An old-fashioned 3-point play from WashU put the Bears up by three as Jaden Kolinski ended a four-minute scoring drought for the Titans with a 3-pointer. Lindsay's 3-ponter with 1:46 remaining in the first quarter saw the Titans take the lead for the final time as the Titans ended the first quarter of play on an 8-0 run.

Outscoring the Bears 21-10 in the second quarter, the Bears would trim the Titans lead to four at 19-15 on a made 3-pointer. A pair of 3-pointers by Huml and Douglas saw the Titans take a ten point advantage (25-15) as the Bears' Jessica Brooks brought the game within single digits with 4:52 remaining. A 14-3 run by the Titans saw the Titans' lead grow to 20 as the Bears got the final shot of the half.

Maintaining a double-digit lead, the Titans answered baskets by the Bears on a 6-4 opening run. The Bears went on a ten-to-five run late in the quarter to trim the Titans lead to 18 at 53-35 to end the quarter. The Titans defense shot the Bears down in the fourth quarter, holding the Bears to seven points. The Titans went 10-of-12 in the final quarter from the field, including five 3-pointers.

Next Time on the Court 

The Titans conclude action at the 2022 BSN Winter Classic on Dec. 30. The Titans will face the Red Hawks of Ripon at 5 p.m. at the Oshkosh Arena.

The Red Hawks of Ripon defeated UW-Stout in their opening game, posting a 67-59 victory over the Blue Devils. Ripon was led by Alison Leslie with 21 points as Anna Mutch led Stout with 20 points.
