Women's Basketball Drops Game at Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis.— A tough night on the road for the UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball squad (10-5, 1-4 WIAC) as the Titans fell to the No. 13/20 UW-Whitewater Warhawks (13-3, 4-1 WIAC), 66-56.

Kayce Vaile and Kate Huml led the Titans with 14 points each. Vaile, who went six-of-ten from the field, led the Titans with nine rebounds and two blocks. Huml went four-of-eight from the field and was perfect at the free throw line, making all six attempts.

The Titans shot 36.5% from the field (19-of-52) and 77.8% from the free throw line (14-of-18). The Titans were outrebounded by ten, collecting 28 rebounds. The Titans added eight assists, six steals, and five blocks in the contest.

Game Summary

Vaile opened scoring for the Titans on a layup, assisted by Huml. Kennedy Osterman hit back-to-back shots as the Titans took their largest lead of the game at 7-2. The Warhawks defense held the Titans without a basket for two-and-a-half minutes as Ava Douglas brought the Titans within one at 10-9. Vaile ended an 8-0 scoring run by the Warhawks as the Titans trailed by seven after the first quarter. The Titans were held to seven point in the second quarter as the Warhawks went on a 20-7 run. Vaile and Huml made trips to the free throw line as Allison Forney hit a 3-pointer for the Titans with 1:50 remaining in the first half.

Led by Jenna Jorgensen's 3-pointer, the Titans opened the third quarter on a 12-4 run to trim the deficit to 12. On an assist from Bridget Froehlke, Vaile brought the Titans within ten at 42-32. The Titans defense held the Warhawks to seven points over the course of four minutes. Huml opened the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws as the Warhawks answered with back-to-back points. Osterman and Huml made a pair of trips to the free throw line as Vaile hit a layup as the Titans continued dig out of their deficit. Avery Poole scored four of the Titans final eight points.

Next Time of the Court  

The Titans return to Kolf Sports Center on January 14 as the UW-La Crosse Eagles visit Oshkosh. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. as the Titans continue to celebrate Faculty and Staff Appreciation week.
