Softball Opens Spring Break Trip with Wins over Hamline and Wesleyan

CLERMONT, Fl.—The UW-Oshkosh Titans softball squad swept competition as they improved to 10-0 on the season. The Titans are one of 11 teams with an undefeated season for Division III softball.

The Titans defeated the Pipers of Hamline University 4-1 in the first game of the day before posting their second shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over the Cardinals of Wesleyan University (CT).

Sydney Nemetz pitched her third complete game of the season and grabbed her fifth win in the circle. Nemetz allowed only three hits and one run, while recording five strikeouts. Nemetz faced only three batters in the second and fifth innings as the Pipers were unable to take the bases.  

Hamline struck first, scoring on an RBI single to right-center field in the fourth inning. Sophie Wery doubled in the fifth, bringing home Gabby Buikema and Abby Garceau. Hannah Ritter scored on a wild pitch in the fifth as the Titans took a 3-1 lead over the Pipers. Haylie Wittman scored on a sacrifice fly from Morgan Miller in the sixth for the final run of the game for the Titans.

Wery got the Titans on the board with a double down the left-field line for Buikema and Garceau scored for the Titans. Miller had an RBI single in the first as Wery scored for the Titans. The Titans weren't done scoring in the first inning as Wittman scored on a wild pitch to take a 4-0 lead at the end of one.

Ritter laid down a bunt which she beat to base as Buikema and Garceau scored on a throwing error by the Cardinals. Morgan Rau singled up the middle as Caitlin Williams brought home what would be the final run scored of the game.

Maddie Fink recorded her third complete game of the season and recorded nine strikeouts in the game. Fink allowed only three hits from the Cardinals in the game.

The Cardinals put two on base in the second inning, the most to reach base during the game. The two pitchers settled in for the final three innings of the game as the teams combined for four hits, with three hits coming from the Titans.

Up Next

On March 19, the Titans will face Buffalo State University at 10:30 a.m. CT before taking on Millikin University at 1 p.m. Buffalo State opens their season at the Spring Games while Millikin won their first four games of the season before dropping their next four games.
