Titans Drop Two To Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team (24-11, 15-7) dropped a twin bill for the first time this season with 7-2 and 4-1 losses to UW-Stevens Point (26-9, 16-5 WIAC) on Friday.

Game One Recap

Connor Brinkman started for Oshkosh, facing Stevens Point's Casey Pickering.

The game remained scoreless until Chase Marsh hit a home run to left field in the top of the third, giving Oshkosh its only lead of the game.

The Pointers responded with five runs in the bottom of the third, led by a grand slam hit by Payton Nelson.

Mason Kirchberg hit the Titans' second home run of the day with a leadoff shot to left field in the top of the fifth. Anthony Tomczak hit his own home run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-2.

Pickering (6-1) earned the win in 6.0 innings of work. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out four. Brinkman (7-2) was assigned the loss. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 11 hits and two walks for seven runs while striking out six.

Game Two Recap

Connor Walters started on the mound for Oshkosh in the second game and Mason Weckler started for Stevens Point.

Similar to the first game, neither team scored until the top of the third and the Titans recorded a single run off a home run. This time it was Jake Surane who hit it to right field.

Walters held UWSP scoreless through seven innings before being relieved by Josh Jansen at the top of the eighth. The Pointers walked twice to start the inning and Jansen was replaced by Logan King. Stevens Point proceeded to score four runs in the inning, with two runs scoring on a couple doubles by Bradley Comer and Tomczak.

In 2.1 innings of work, Nick Carpenter (2-0) threw the win, allowing no runs, hits or walks and striking out one. Sidney Ferry, who threw 1.0 inning, earned his seventh save of the season with a walk and a strikeout. Jansen (0-2) was assigned the loss. He recorded no outs against the two batters he faced, walking them both. They both also later scored after he was taken out.

Looking Forward
