Titans Drop WIAC Opener To Eagles

Jaden LeRoy took the Titans' shot on goal against the Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team opened WIAC play in La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 5) against UW-La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex. UW-La Crosse defeated the Titans by a score of 3-0.

The Titans (1-8-2, 0-1 WIAC) were outshot by the Eagles (7-3-0, 1-0 WIAC) 23-2, 10-1 in on goal shots and 13-1 on corner kicks while they led with seven saves to the Eagles' one.

Titan keeper Emma Sauriol (Sr. • New Lenox, Ill.) made all seven of Oshkosh's saves in her 90 minutes on the pitch. Forward Jaden LeRoy (Fr. • Evansville) recorded the Titans' shot on goal and midfielder Ariana Gonzalez (So. • Appleton) shot once. Defenders Shannon Walsh (So. • Des Plaines, Ill.) and Ryley Meenk (Fr. • Waukesha) played all 90 minutes of the contest.

Sauriol held the Eagles scoreless through the first half, registering six saves, including on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.

Just two minutes into the second half, Alexis McMahon found a gap and scored the first of La Crosse's three goals unassisted. She was followed 13 minutes later by Ellie Arndt, assisted by Aubree Caya.

La Crosse extended its lead in the 74th minute when Lizzy Hanstedt slotted third goal from Megan McNeely.

Oshkosh's best chance to score came in the 76th minute when Jaden LeRoy fired a shot on goal, however Eagle goalkeeper Erelyn Apel was quick to save the ball from the back of the net.

The Titans head back home for a one match homestand to host another WIAC foe in the UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
