OSHKOSH, Wis.-Â The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team took down the Carroll Pioneers in their first home game of the year on Wednesday night (Nov. 20) by a score of 83-64. The Titans led the entire game from the moment they scored their first points 26 seconds into play.
UW-Oshkosh (3-1) was efficient from the field, shooting 42 percent (29-of-68) to the Pioneers' (2-2) 32 percent (23-of-71). The Titans capitalized on their forced turnovers, scoring 19 points on 12 turnovers. Oshkosh also dominated the paint scoring 42 of its 83 points in the lane.
The Titans were again led by
Michael Metcalf-Grassman (So. • Shawano/Waukesha) as he recorded his third double-double of the season with 18 points, 10 rebounds while recording two assists and three blocks.
Joey LaChapell (Fr. • Appleton) recorded season highs in points, rebounds, and steals. His stat line included 16 points with a perfect 6-of-6 from the line, six rebounds, and six steals. Two other Titans had double-digit points;Â
Nate Nazos (Fr. - Batavia, Ill.) with 14 points and
Jonah Rindfleisch (Sr. - Milwaukee), who had 11.
Oshkosh started the first three minutes of the game hot, going on a 12-3 run. The Titans extended their lead over the Pioneers with a 13-6 to go up 25-9 with just under half way to go in the opening period. For the next six-and-a-half minutes, the two teams put up an even 15-15, making the score 40-24 with 2:49 to go in the half. Carroll then finished the half with a 7-5 run, going into the half down 14 points at 45-31.
The first two minutes of the second half were neck-and-neck with each team scoring five to put the score at 50-36. Carroll then went on a 9-6 run and cutting the lead to 11 (56-45) with 12:03 remaining in the game. The Titans then went on a 12-9 run fueled by seven points from LaChapell to extend Oshkosh's edge to 68-54 with 5:47 to go. The last five minutes finished on a 15-10 Oshkosh run with another six points coming from LaChapell.Â
Oshkosh is set to head to Chicago to take on North Park University (Ill.) (1-2) at the North Park Gymnasium on Saturday (Nov 23) at 4 p.m.
