Titans Win Nonconference Contest Over Lakeland

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team collected 15 hits in a 16-3 win over Lakeland University on Saturday (Apr. 20).

The Titans (16-13, 9-7 WIAC) hit two home runs and seven doubles against the Muskies (6-23, 1-15 NACC).

Connor Walters (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) started on the mound, pitching 4.0 innings for the Titans with five strikeouts while allowing five hits and no walks. He improved to 3-3 on the season.

Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) opened the bottom of the first inning with a single through the left side followed by a home run by Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) for the first two runs of the game. Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) doubled down the left field line before Mason Kirchberg (Jr. • DeForest) hit another home run to left field to make the score 4-0.

The Muskies got put on the board in the top of the second with a single to third for an RBI and double to left for another RBI.

Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field, sending Max home to start scoring in the bottom half of the inning. Kirchberg singled to center field for a two RBI hit, sending Shiu and Stebane home.

In the bottom of the third, Surane reached on a fielder's choice for his second RBI. Kirchberg doubled to center field for another two RBI knock, scoring Taylor and Shiu home and making the score 12-2.

Lakeland put another run on the board with a home run in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Grant Gill (Fr. • Suamico) hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Chris Callas (Fr. • Mundelein, Ill.). Danny Connelly (Fr. • Mundelein, Ill.) then added another run when Stebane doubled to right center field.

A ground ball from Gill scored Connelly to bring to score to 15-3 in the bottom of the eighth. Riley Pfeiffer (So. • Lockport, Ill.) doubled to left center getting an RBI with Trevor Morris (So. • Naperville, Ill.) scoring on the play.

The Titans will return to the field for a rescheduled game at Carthage College on Wednesday (Apr. 24). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
