Titans Fall To Division II Huskies

OSHKOSH, Wis.- For the third time in four years, the UW-Oshkosh football team faced an NCAA Division II program on Saturday (Sept. 21), hosting Michigan Tech at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium in its final nonconference game of the 2024 schedule.

The Titans (2-1), currently ranked No. 14 in the nation by D3football.com and No. 13 by the American Football Coaches Association, most recently faced Northern Michigan University in 2021 and 2022.

UW-Oshkosh (2-1) had played Michigan Tech once before entering Saturday's contest, posting a 34-3 win in Oshkosh during the 1987 campaign. Oshkosh fell to the Huskies (2-1) by a score of 44-7, evening the all-time series at 1-1. The Titans shutout Michigan Tech in the first quarter scored their touchdown in the fourth quarter while the Huskies posted 23 points in the second quarter, seven in the third and 14 in the fourth.

The Titans totaled 303 offensive yards with 244 through the air, averaging 4.3 yards per play. They also converted 10 of their 16 third down conversion chances and controlled the ball for over half of the contest (34:07).

In his first career start, quarterback Cole Warren (Fr. • Roscoe, Ill.) completed 28 of his 41 passing attempts for 244 yards. Trae Tetzlaff (Sr. • Waukesha) caught 13 passes for 125 yards, his first game with over 100 receiving yards of the year and the sixth of his career. Tristian Taylor (So. • Memphis, Tenn.) scored the first touchdown of his career and carried the ball 10times across the day. Defensively, Kyle Dietzen (Jr. • Omro) and Kenny Satori (So. • Denmark) both finished with seven tackles. Dietzen recorded six solo tackles while Satori notched four. Mitch Borkovec (Sr. • Muskego) also registered a 3-yard sack.

The Titans received the opening kickoff and marched down to the Michigan Tech 23-yard line before attempting a broken-up field goal at the 30-yard line. UW-Oshkosh then forced a 10-play drive that ended with a 4th-and-17 punt by the Huskies.

Michigan Tech scored the first touchdown in the second quarter and added two more scores by halftime.

The Oshkosh defense stopped the Huskies in their first possession of the second half with a sack and an incomplete pass that led to a Michigan Tech punt. The Titans then ate up almost six minutes of the clock and reached the Huskies' 17-yard line before turning the ball over. The Huskies scored again before the quarter ended, entering the final period with a 30-0 edge.

UW-Oshkosh took control of the ball with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter and worked its way down the field in seven plays, which set up Taylor's touchdown run to put the Titans on the board. Nolan Mobley (Sr. • Oak Creek) connected on his point-after attempt.

The Titans will prepare for their WIAC schedule during the upcoming off week and travel to No. 3 UW-Whitewater (2-1) on Oct. 5 for their first league game.
