Titans Ground Eagles On The Road

Jay Dalton scored a career-best 17 points in the win over Edgewood

MADISON, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh men's basketball played Edgewood University at the Eagles' Todd Wehr Edgedome on Tuesday night (Nov. 25) and scored at least 40 points in each half to secure a 90-63 victory, marking the third game this season that the Titans have reached the 90-point mark.

The Titans (4-1), ranked 17th in NCAA Division III in D3hoops.com's most recent poll, are 32-4 against the Eagles (0-4) since the 1985-86 season and extended their winning streak to 15 games dating back to a 77-68 win in Oshkosh on Friday, November 19, 2004.

Oshkosh shot 44.7 percent (34-of-76) from the field, 33.3 percent (12-of-36) from three, and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the line, leading Edgewood from the field and the line. Edgewood held a slightly higher 38.1-percent mark (8-of-21) from beyond the arc, however the Titans led 44-30 in points in the paint, 32-9 in points off turnovers, 20-11 in second chance points, 16-4 in fast break points, and 38-23 in bench points.

The Titans induced 23 Eagle turnovers in the contest and recorded 14 steals while blocking seven shots and committing just 10 turnovers themselves.

Oshkosh broke away early in the first half with a 7-0 run that featured a Logan Rindfleisch (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) three, two Vitorio Dante (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) free throws, and an AJ Ohrmundt (Hartland/Arrowhead Union) jump shot to make the score 9-2. The Eagles clawed back within three points with 14 minutes left in the half, however Brandon Beck (Rockton, Ill./Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.)) responded with a pair of three-pointers before the Titans extended their edge to 23-11 by the 10-minute mark with five consecutive points by Jay Dalton (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac). Oshkosh fended off a two-point deficit by going 9-0 between 5:37 and 4:15 and Aiden Hawkinson (Waupun/Waupun) closed out the half by hitting a three with two seconds on the clock.

The first substantial run of the second half was started by a Joey LaChapell (Appleton/Appleton East) jump shot and closed out with a 71-45 edge by Dalton when he made a layup with 9:44 remaining in the game. Oshkosh slowly grew its lead to 28 points around the six-minute mark before Edgewood almost got back within 20 points on a 6-0 spurt. Scoring was slow in the last three minutes as the programs combined for 16 substitutions. Adam Guyette (Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy), LaChapell, and Riley Rindfleisch (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) combined for seven points over that period while the Oshkosh defense held Edgewood to a single jumper.

Beck shot 10-of-15 from the field, 5-of-8 from three, and 1-of-1 from the line for a game-high 26 points and recorded two rebounds, a block, and an assist. Dalton was the Titans' second-highest scorer with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-9 from the field, including a three, and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. The Titans' third double-digit scorer was LaChapell, who tallied 10 points by going 4-of-12 from the field and 2-of-7 from three. He added a game-high five assists.

Rindfleisch paced the Titans with six rebounds (three offensive) and Michael Metcalf-Grassman (Shawano/Waukesha/Shawano Community) stole three possessions while seven Titans blocked a shot.

The Titans will travel to Illinois to face Augustana College (Ill.) (3-1) on Sunday (Nov. 30) at 3 p.m. before hosting Benedictine University (Ill.) (2-2, 1-0 NACC) at Kolf Sports Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3.
