PLYMOUTH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling team participated in the Lakeland University Muskie Scramble on Saturday (Nov. 8). Although the event was non-scoring, the Titans secured numerous top-eight finishes across the A and B divisions.

In the A divisions, the Titans claimed three top-three placements.
Roman Martell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) and
Garth Martell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) shared the top position in the 285-pound bracket after the meet was ended due to the length of the day. Roman reached the championship match with a 1:55 pin of Carthage College's Chris Gielow, a 4-1 decision against Kei`Aviyahn Evans from Concordia University Wisconsin, a sudden victory win over Lakeland University's Diego Morales, and a forfeit win. Garth posted two pins, a 16-7 major decision against UW-Platteville's Jackson Kirsch, and edged out Milwaukee School of Engineering's Jake Schmitt, 2-1.

At 165 pounds,
Ryan Bergman (Watertown/Watertown) took second place after a stellar run that included back-to-back technical falls (17-2 and 15-0) and a hard-fought 10-9 win by decision over Diego Snell-Martinez from MSOE before dropping the championship bout.

One hundred forty-nine-pounder
Jacob Ward (Green Bay/Bay Port) reached the third-place match on three wins, including a 10-2 major decision, a 16-1 technical fall, and a fall at 6:35.

JP Culver (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg Community) finished fifth at 125 pounds and earned a three-minute pin of Nick Needham of Luther College (Iowa) before taking the fifth-place match when he pinned Platteville's Chris Karbash in 4:43.

Ryan Hanson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) also earned victories in his bracket. He earned his first 133-pound win by 10-4 decision and his second by 17-2 technical fall but did not wrestle the fifth-place match.

Also competing in the A divisions were
Logan Harel (Cadott/Cadott) at 141 pounds,
Jacob Hibbard (Mishicot/Mishicot) at 157 pounds,
Nathan Lenz-Messman (Menasha/Menasha) at 174 pounds, and
Desmond Walker (Oshkosh/Winneconne) at 197 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh collected the bulk of its top finishes in the B divisions, highlighted by two champions.

At 125 pounds,
Nick Ersland (Wisconsin Dells/Wisconsin Dells) went undefeated, securing a first-place finish with a 12-7 decision against Luther's Chase Tankson, a fall in 5:16 against Carthage's Lucas Burgio, and a 22-2 technical fall over Bobby Rutkoff from Luther before winning the championship match by major decision at 19-7 against Elijah Torres from Concordia Wisconsin.

Richie Amakiri (Plano, Ill./Plano) also claimed a first place title, earning a 6-4 decision, a 12-3 major decision, and a pin in 3:36 before winning the 197-pound first place match by 13-9 decision over Griffin Schultz from Luther.

The Titans also earned two runner-up spots in the B divisions.
Dominick Girardin (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) finished second at 149 pounds with wins by fall (4:40), decision (8-1), and technical fall (21-5), while Joey Spizzirri finished second at 165 pounds after an opening technical fall (26-10) and a swift 58-second fall in the semifinal round.

Wyatte Nicholson (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty), and
Caidan Ronning (Plano, Ill./Plano), and
Kyle Rasper (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) collected third place finishes at 133, 141, and 157, respectively.

In the only C division bracket,
Joe Beavers (Hustisford/Hustisford) posted a 6-1 decision in his second match at 149 pounds.

The Titans return to the home mats on Wednesday (Nov. 12), as they host No. 17 nationally ranked UW-Eau Claire for the annual Chancellor's Cup. They are 3-7 against the Blugolds since the 2015-16 season, last winning, 27-12, on November 11, 2021.
