NASHVILLE, Tenn.- UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling won its second dual on the 2025-26 season, defeating Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) in the second of three matches in the Luther College (Iowa) Gator 'Boots' Duals in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday (Dec. 20).
The Titans (2-7) opened their match against Ursinus College (Pa.) with wins at 125 and 133 pounds as
JP Culver (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg Community) earned a 15-7 major decision over Teague McCormack and
Ryan Hanson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) took a 18-15 victory over Blaise Verdino. After
Logan Harel (Cadott/Cadott) was defeated in the 141-pound bout,
Jacob Ward (Green Bay/Bay Port) picked up his eighth win of the year by taking a 19-9 major decision against Dylan Vallone.
Ryan Bergman (Watertown/Watertown) put Oshkosh up midway through the dual as he beat Joseph Martini, 10-5, at 165 pounds, however the Bears won each of the last four weight classes to secure a 34-14 victory.
JP Culver (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg Community) kicked off the Titans' 36-13 win over Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) with a 10-1 major decision over Dakota Phillips. Hanson picked up his second of three wins on the day by pinning Reid Prenger in 1:32 before the Lions got on the board, followed by pins for
Caidan Ronning (Plano, Ill./Plano) and
Ryan Bergman (Watertown/Watertown) at 157 and 165 pounds. Oshkosh wrapped up the win with victories at the two highest weight classes.
Desmond Walker (Oshkosh/Winneconne) earned a 1:05 pin of David Maher at 197 pounds and
Roman Martell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) won the 285-pound bout with a 6-4 win over Donovan Gayle.
Oshkosh and Huntingdon College (Ala.) battled to a 22-22 tie in the Titans' final dual of the day; however, the Hawks took the win by edging out Oshkosh, 48-46, on the tiebreaker. Hanson pinned Hunter Rabun in 43 seconds, and
Wyatte Nicholson (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) took Hayden Mason to the mat in 2:31 in back-to-back bouts, followed by a 7-5 win by Ward at 149 pounds. Bergman secured the 165-pound match by defeating Cooper Comer by 11-3 major decision and
Roman Martell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) grinded out a 5-0 win against Steven Flagg.
The Titans pick up after the new year with a WIAC dual at UW-Platteville on Thursday, January 15 at 6 p.m. at the Pioneers' Williams Fieldhouse. Since the 1985-86 season, Platteville holds a 27-15-1 series lead over Oshkosh. UW-Oshkosh picked up its last win over the conference foe with a 23-15 win at home on February 2, 2021.
