OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's basketball completed an unbeaten romp through the nonconference portion of its schedule, cruising past UW-Superior, 68-41, Monday (Dec. 29) during the final game of the UW-Oshkosh BSN Winter Classic in Oshkosh Arena.

Oshkosh (11-0), ranked in the
D3hoops.com poll and fourth by the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association, finished its nonconference slate unblemished for the second straight season. The Titans, who opened last season with 17 consecutive victories, also won their first 11 games in 1975-76, 1994-95, 1995-96, 1998-99, 2004-05 and 2013-14.

The Titans scored on their first possession Monday and never trailed, owning leads of 13-8 after the first quarter, 33-23 at halftime and 46-36 heading into the final period.

Paige Seckar (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) paced Oshkosh with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 5-of-5 at the free throw line while adding three assists.

Sammi Beyer (Appleton/Appleton East) added 11 points and a game-high four assists for the Titans.

The Titans featured 10 scorers, including
Abbey Inda (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) with a career-best seven points and
Mallory Hoitink (Hartford/Slinger),
Mallory Lindsey (Mineral Point/Mineral Point) and
Avery Poole (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) with six each.

Oshkosh finished the contest shooting 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the floor, 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from 3-point range and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) at the foul line. The Titans had advantages of 15-5 in assists, 9-19 in turnovers and 6-5 in steals. They went into the day leading the NCAA Division III in turnovers committed per game (9.6) while ranking fourth nationally in scoring defense (44.1) and seventh in both assist-to-turnover ratio (1.41) and turnover margin (10.80).

Superior shot 18-of-49 (36.7 percent) from the field, 4-of-15 (4-15) from beyond the 3-point arc and 1-of-5 (20 percent) at the free throw line. The Yellowjackets (2-9), who held a 33-32 rebounding edge, had made more than one free throw during each of their previous 395 games dating back to the 2010-11 season.

Beyer scored the first five points of the game as Oshkosh built a pair of seven-point leads in the first period. A 7-0 scoring run upped the Titan cushion to 27-15 following a Lindsey 3-pointer at the 4:44 mark of the second quarter before a Hoitink long-range jumper provided a 33-21 lead with 89 seconds to go in the first half.

After trailing by 16 points early in the third quarter, Superior pulled within 46-39 during the opening minute of the final period. However, Oshkosh responded with scoring runs of 22-2 over the final 9:19 of the contest and 17-0 during the last 5:48. Seckar accounted for nine of the Titans' 22 points in the game-ending run.

Charlotte Ferstl led the Yellowjackets with 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Megan Schafer also scored 10 points and contributed a pair of steals for Superior.

Beyer and Seckar represented Oshkosh on the six-member BSN Winter Classic All-Tournament Team on the women's side. The Titan duo was joined by Superior's Hope Carlson, Ripon College's Natalie Rauwolf and Sophie Schlieve, and Maddy Grove from University of Minnesota Morris.

Oshkosh, which boasts a 52-4 nonconference record since 2021-22, begins WIAC play at 3 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 3), when it hosts UW-Whitewater in Kolf Sports Center. The Warhawks (9-1), who have lost three of their last four games against the Titans, are ranked 10th in both the D3hoops.com and WBCA polls.
