KENOSHA, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team finished its nonconference schedule on Saturday (March 22), beating Carthage College by a score of 4-3 at the Firebirds' Augie Schmidt Field.
The Titans (9-3) collected seven hits to the Firebirds' (11-5) eight including a
Logan Schill (So. • Pewaukee) double. He also stole a base on his 2-for-3 day at the plate.
Connor Walters (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) started on the mound, throwing 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. He allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk. After
Nick Rector (Sr. • Sewell, N.J.) finished the fifth inning with a strikeout,
Josh Jansen (Jr. • DeForest) finished the contest with four scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and allowed a pair of hits while collecting his third win of the season.
In the third inning, Schill scored Oshkosh's first run on a
Brenden Max (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) single after reaching on a walk.
Nick Shiu (Sr. • Gurnee, Ill.) tallied the Titans' second run of the inning on a balk.
Scoring picked up again in the fifth when Schill reached home again, this time on a sacrifice fly from
Jake Surane (Grad. • Lincolnshire, Ill.). Not to be counted out, Carthage tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning.
Zach Taylor (Grad. • Long Grove, Ill.) broke the stalemate in the eighth inning, singling through the infield and sending Shiu across the plate.
Jansen forced two straight flyouts at the start of the bottom of the ninth and recorded the third out with a looking strikeout after allowing a single.
The Titans will host UW-Platteville (5-3) on March 29-30 for their first home games of the season. Oshkosh and the Pioneers play a pair of doubleheaders at Tiedemann Field each day to open WIAC play.
