OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh softball swept the Carroll University Pioneers in their outdoor home opener on Saturday (April 5). The Titans won game one, 8-0, in five innings and game two, 8-2.
In game one, the Titans tallied seven hits to the Pioneers' four and had 11 hits to Carroll's seven in game two.
Sophie Wery (Sr. • Seymour) was perfect at the dish in game one as she went 2-for-2 with a home run, drove in four runs, and scored once.
Morgan Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) was also solid, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) was in the circle to start the doubleheader's opener. Nemetz tossed five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and gave up four hits. She is now 7-1 on the season.
Game one's scoring was opened when Wery blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning.
Olivia Ullman (Fr. • Denmark), who reached on a leadoff double, also scored.
The Titans added four runs in the third inning. After
Amanda Martineck (So. • Frankfort, Ill.) reached on an error,
Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) singled, and both advanced to second on third on a wild pitch,
Morgan Rau sent Martineck home and
Sydney Rau made the score 4-0 on a
Cali Divito (Sr. • Inverness, Ill.) groundout. Wery sent Ullman and
Morgan Rau home in the following at-bat on a double to center field.
In the fourth inning, Ullman knocked in two more runs on an error to give the Titans the 8-0 win over Carroll.
Morgan Rau also led the way in game two as she was 2-for-3 again with another RBI and run scored. Divito went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Grace Nardi (Fr. • Marquette, Mich.) was the starter for game two. She threw three innings, struck out three and gave up two runs on five hits.
Morgan Miller (Jr. • Schaumburg, Ill.) pitched the next 1.2 innings, struck out one and gave up two hits.
Brianna Bougie (So. • Oshkosh) finished the game by striking out three and moved to a 5-0 record when she earned the win.
Ullman scored
Sydney Rau and
Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) in the first inning on a two-RBI single and later scored the third run of the frame on a Divito double.
The Pioneers scored their only runs of the day on back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the second inning.
After Divito hit a solo shot in the fourth inning, UW-Oshkosh tallied another four in the fifth.
Morgan Rau and Wery recorded RBI singles and
Sarah Hammerton (So. • Appleton) had a two RBI double. The Titans completed the sweep after winning in game two, 8-2.
The Titans are scheduled to be back at home against Marian University (5-9, 0-2 NACC) on Tuesday (April 8) with the doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
