Titans Advance In NCAA Regional With Shutout Victory Over Falcons

Grace Nardi recorded all 21 outs of the Titans' NCAA opener shutout with five strikeouts

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team will start the second day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship in the winner's bracket after defeating Concordia University Wisconsin, 6-0, at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park on Thursday (May 15).

The No. 14 nationally ranked Titans (37-6) are now 3-0 against the Falcons (31-12) this season after opening the season with a pair of wins at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome on February 22.

With a 10-4 regular season league record, Oshkosh earned the two seed in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's). The team defeated UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville on its way to the third conference tournament title in program history to secure the league's automatic bid to the national tournament.

Brianna Bougie (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) was the starter for Oshkosh; however, a liner off her fifth pitch came back to hit her and she exited the game. Grace Nardi (Marquette, Mich./Negaunee) threw the remainder of the game, striking out five batters while allowing five hits and two walks. She allowed Concordia Wisconsin to reach second base just three times in the game and held the visitors to zero runs.

Olivia Ullman (Denmark/Denmark) and Sophie Wery (Seymour/Seymour Community) both went 2-for-3 with a run while Sarah Hammerton (Appleton/Appleton West) recorded two RBIs on 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Abby Garceau (Mishicot/Mishicot), who hit 1-for-3, drew a walk, hit a triple, scored twice, and sent in a run.

Garceau drew a walk as the first Titan to make a plate appearance, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South), and to third when Ullman singled to left field. When Ullman stole second, she ran the last 60 feet home and Ullman advanced to third. Morgan Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) then scored Ullman in the following plate appearance, hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.

After Nardi forced a pair of pop ups and a groundout in the top of the second inning, UW-Oshkosh scored four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Haylie Wittman (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) and Wery each singled with one out and both scored when Hammerton doubled to left center field. Two more runs were added in the inning when Garceau scored Hammerton on a triple and tallied Oshkosh's sixth run when Sydney Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) grounded out to second base.

UW-Oshkosh reached second base in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but could not register additional runs.

The Titans will face UW-Stevens Point in the winner's bracket at 11 a.m. on Friday (May 16). The Pointers (29-12) won their first round game with Central College (Iowa) (26-12) by a score of 3-0. The winner of Friday's game advances to Saturday's (May 17) regional championship. This season, Stevens Point owns a 2-1 series edge. The Pointers won both regular season contests on April 23 and the Titans took the WIAC Tournament victory on May 10.
