Titans Force Game Three Of Super Regional With 5-2 Win Over Warhawks

Logan Schill scored two of Oshkosh's five runs and had two extra-base hits in the second game of the Super Regional

WHITEWATER, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh baseball sent the NCAA Division III Championship Super Regional to game three on Saturday (May 24) with a 5-2 victory over UW-Whitewater at Prucha Field.

The Titans (35-15) scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and never relinquished the lead across the following eight frames while recording 10 total hits. Oshkosh pitchers allowed the Warhawks (43-6) to score just twice on eight hits. Starter Josh Jansen (DeForest/DeForest) faced just three batters in the fifth and seventh innings while reliever Ryan Richter (Waukesha/Waukesha West) faced the minimum in the seventh and ninth.

Jansen moved to 9-2 on the season with seven innings of work, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters. Richter tossed two innings of scoreless work, scattering a single hit.

Logan Schill (Pewaukee/Pewaukee) went 2-for-3 with a leadoff double and a leadoff triple, and two runs scored. Carter Stebane (Brillion/Brillion) and Owen Housinger (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) also had two hits while Jake Surane's (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) lone hit of the game was a two-run home run.

In the top of the first inning, Schill led off Oshkosh's hitting with a double to left center before advancing to third base on an error. Nick Shiu (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) sent him home in the following at-bat with a single to the outfield for the Titans' first run and Surane hit his fifth home run of the season and second of the national postseason to increase the edge to 3-0.

UW-Whitewater scored its first run in the top of the second inning and Oshkosh responded in the bottom half of the inning. Schill tripled to lead off the bottom half of the frame and scored again when Shiu hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

After a pair of scoreless innings through the middle half of the game, Whitewater added another run in the top of the sixth inning before Jansen stranded two.

Jack McNamara (La Grange, Ill./Lyons) drew a walk to start Oshkosh's half of the seventh inning and advanced a pair of bags on a sacrifice bunt by Schill and a wild pitch, but the Warhawks escaped the inning without allowing a run.

For the second inning in a row, Oshkosh was awarded a leadoff walk when Zach Taylor (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) was thrown four balls at the plate. Carter Stebane (Brillion/Brillion) beat out a bunt down the first base line and Owen Housinger (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with an out. Jack McKellips (Oshkosh/Lourdes Academy) singled to center field to send Taylor home for the Titans' fifth run before a Warhawk pitching change occurred and the following two Titan batters were put out.

Richter induced a flyout for the first out of the ninth inning before allowing a single. The following batter lined the ball directly to Taylor at first base who stepped on the bag to turn the unassisted double play.

The Titans and Warhawks will face for the ninth time this season at 1:45 p.m. The winner of game three advances to the College Baseball World Series.
